We have a responsibility to ensure that our behaviour towards each other reflects the principles of treating others with dignity and respect.

We recognise that discrimination, harassment and victimisation are unacceptable and we oppose all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination or victimisation. Nobody representing the company will discriminate directly or indirectly, or harass clients/students because of age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation in the provision of its services.

Our commitments to clients are:

  • to create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all our clients are recognised and valued.
  • to ensure that all students can expect fair and accessible classes, workshops and private sessions. We aim to do this by removing unfair conscious and unconscious bias as far as possible and improving equitable measures.
  • to ensure that language used by us contains no bias in content towards any student or client sharing a particular characteristic, other than those that specifically apply to the purpose of the classes. In all instances where restrictions apply the reason will be clearly explained: for example, women only or age specific services.

We reserve the right to alter and amend our class timetable as needed.

All bookings must be paid for in advance through the website. All credit cards will be processed in Pounds Stirling at the time of payment. Humata is not liable for any fees, charges, exchange rates or additional charges levied by individual financial institutions or credit card companies.

Humata is a small business and cannot usually offer refunds or transfers of credit on bookings for yoga classes or coaching sessions. However, we aim to be flexible and responsive so please reach out and we will consider each request on its own merits.

Health and Safety during yoga classes

Humata believes in taking all reasonable steps to ensure a safe practice environment for students and teachers. All aspects of health and safety are the teachers ongoing responsibility, so awareness of any changes in student’s circumstances or environmental factors are key considerations.

Venue risk assessment

Each venue has their own Health and Safety duties to all who enter the building. A risk assessment will be undertaken for each venue used to teach classes and is an ongoing responsibility of the teacher. Risks assessment will be kept up-to-date and action will be taken to mitigate against any risks presented.

Each venue has their own fire safety procedures and all must adhere to these in the event of a fire or drill . Where necessary the teacher will confirm fire exits, escape routes and meeting points.

The doors will be locked once classes begin to maintain privacy and safety.

Outdoors

When practicing outdoors, we will risk asses the area and weather conditions before confirming classes. Students are advised to prepare for changeable weather, bringing warm layers and suncream as required.

Students

Our yoga teachers have a  duty of care towards all student’s, including their physical and emotional wellbeing. This duty is an ongoing responsibility to be met by ensuring the teacher has the necessary information to be aware of student’s needs and through close observation while students are in their care.

Teachers will seek information about student’s general health, wellbeing and support needs through the new student questionnaire, speaking with new students before their first class begins and asking all students about injuries or illnesses at the start of each class

Should any student suffer an injury or illness during a class, a written record of the event will be made as soon a reasonably practical, which will include: Name of student, Date and time of incident, Action taken and by whom, Any witnesses, The outcome. If the incident relates to environmental factors this information will be shared with the venue’s responsible individual so that their own reporting procedures may be implemented

Safeguarding Vulnerable adults

Humata provides yoga, coaching and mentoring services to promote wholeness and healing. Safeguarding adults is a legal requirement under the Social Care and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014. This means protecting an adult’s rights to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. Prevention is a key aspect to the safeguarding agenda. Our Safeguarding Policy details our responsibility to the adults we work with and the  systems & processes we have in place with regards to vulnerable adults.

We seek to work cooperatively with other organisations including Social Services, the NHS and voluntary agencies. When working with vulnerable adults related to other organisations, we will respect their own safeguarding policy, and procedures.

Client’s personal responsibility

Yoga

Everyone can practice yoga regardless of their mobility, flexibility or strength and the teacher will offer posture modifications to support all students. However, It is your responsibility to inform the teacher of any issues, illness or injuries. New students are invited to completed the online new student questionnaire and you will have time before sessions to discuss concerns. You can also use the online contact form.

Our bodies are dynamic and vary from day to day so even experienced students must commit to listening to your own body and respecting it’s messages.

Humata is not a medical professional or a replacement for medical advice and treatment, and is not responsible for any damage or injuries during practice. New students who are currently receiving treatment  should consult their doctor or a member of their medical team before starting yoga classes. Clients accept responsibility for any accidents, illnesses or injuries that may occur during a class, event or course.

Coaching

The free first session (20 mins) is an opportunity to honestly identify what you want to get from coaching and/or mentoring; what you want to achieve in your life and what needs to change. It is also where we start to get to know each other and agree a way of working together that will ensure you get the most from your future sessions. Coaching is not a substitute for therapy and clients may be signposted to more appropriate services.

Before formal coaching begins the client will be required to sign a coaching agreement which sets out our expectations of each other. One of these is that the client is responsible for the outcomes of the actions they chose to take (or not take) as a result of engaging in the coaching conversation.

It is important that clients have a quiet, private space for our online sessions  and will not be disturbed or overheard. This will help you to relax and be open which is part of the process. The client is responsible for protecting their privacy outside of the coaching/mentoring context. This includes understanding the potential privacy implications of email, texting, or social media interactions.

Yoga class etiquette

All equipment is provided – this includes mats, straps, bricks, blocks, bolsters, blankets and eye pillows. You are very welcome to bring your own.

Do make a commitment to this protected time and space to connect with yourself.

Bring some water, and try to avoid eating a large meal before attending class.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows a full range of movement. This does not have to be gym wear and I encourage students to look into themselves rather than at each other.

Keep personal belongings to a minimum to help maintain a safe environment. Personal belongings are bought into class at the clients own risk and Humata cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage to property.

We all need to have our phones nearby, but keep it on silent if you can.

Do aim to be on time – it’s better for your practice to arrive relaxed and also respectful to others.

Coaching and mentoring code of ethics

The following beliefs and behaviours underpin Humata’s coaching and mentoring practice in order to promote ethical and non-judgmental behavior toward all clients:

  • I will maintain noticeable commitment to support the client
  • My coaching relationships are built upon truth, openness and trust
  • The client is responsible for the results they are creating
  • The client is capable of much better results than they are currently achieving
  • I maintain a focus on what the client thinks and experiences
  • I know that clients can generate their own solutions
  • My coaching conversations are based on equality
